And of course there is J.F. the awesome banjo-playin bartender. You can play darts in the corner. There are cd release partys quite often for the most respected Québecois traditional bands. The even have a Hurley team. An unusual and friendly place, a real jem!!! They have a atand-up piano too. It rocks!
Aug 31, 2006Overall: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Drink: 5 Food: NR You know that feeling that was in the pub in the series Cheers? Everyone talked with anyone, a relaxed, welcoming place! OK, well mix that up with frequent amazing gigs by musicians from all over Canada and the US and you'll be getting close to what this Irish pub is like. Forget what you know about "Irish pubs", this one is not a typical tourist attraction. It is a genuine bar, which is reflected by the fact that 99% of the clientelle are Quebecors. But there's so much more I love about this little gem of a bar. It is a breath of fresh air, especially since the ban on smoking ;). The staff there are really friendly and are not afraid to talk with the clients, unlike mant bars in Québec. It gives the bar a feeling of closeness (and at the same time open to all) edge that is lacking in so many other places I have been to. Coming back to the music... two words, absolutely excellent! Tuesday nights see the bar explode to the reels and jigs of traditional music from Québec and Ireland, a must see for anyone in Québec. The weekends are often filled with magnificent spectacles of folk, blues, rock, bluegrass and traditional music. The choiche of beers and strong alcohols is very impressive too, and not expensive at all. I cannot say enough good things about this bar. It is truely a treasure!
